The 38 Billfish from Viking Yacht Company was designed and built with the same genetic makeup as her predecessor — the 37 Billfish — and is aimed at the owner/operator who desires more comfort and the reliability and economy of inboard diesel power.
“The 37 Billfish was an instant success so we decided to make a commitment toward taking the Billfish concept to the next level,” says John Leek IV, General Manager of Viking Mullica, where the Billfish line is being manufactured.
With a 109-square-foot cockpit ready for fighting chair or rocket launcher, the boat’s design is clearly aimed at the hardcore fish market. The command deck has a salon-style living area with portside U-shaped dinette and hi-low table, plus lounge to starboard with rod storage. A second lower helm station is also an option.
The boat’s flybridge is designed with a center console walkaround helm featuring Palm Beach-style controls and power-assisted hydraulic steering. Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics can build and install a full package of navigation and communication equipment to deliver the boat turnkey-ready.
A Seakeeper SK 6 gyrostabilizer is a popular option. Powered with twin 550 hp Cummins QSB6.7 diesels, top speed is estimated at 35-plus knots, with a cruise of 31 knots.
