Only 32 boats from the fleet fished the first day and endured very rough sea conditions, but each boat was rewarded with every boat releasing at least one sailfish. During the first day of action, a total of 128 sailfish releases were posted with the crew aboard Wrenegade releasing 10 sailfish. Right on their heels are Absolut Joy with nine releases and Permitted with 8 releases. The Top Angler for day one was Alex Delatur of Berkeley, California with 8 sailfish releases aboard Permitted captained by Greg Bogdan. In the meatfish division, C.J. McLaughlin weighed in a 38 pound dolphin fishing aboard the Southern Run.
