More than four years in the making, Willis’ new 70-foot Uno Mas is the latest addition to owner Brooks Smith’s globe-trotting operation. As both the owner of the boat and a partner in Willis Yachts, Smith incorporated the latest in custom technology and engineering to create a truly personal fishing machine with hull #15 of this reputable Florida builder.
Cockpit, Mezzanine & Bridge
The first of Willis’ new 70-foot hull series, Uno Mas was formed from a cold-molded hull with the latest in carbon composites incorporated into the build for a light and strong finished product. Her spacious cockpit is extremely clean with ample storage to keep tackle and equipment clear. A Release Marine rocket launcher sits in place of a fighting chair to match the crew’s preference for stand-up fishing. A unique feature is no in-deck fish hold, which is a purposeful customization to maximize the crew’s primary objective of catching and releasing billfish, while also keeping the cockpit clear.
The bridge is outfitted with the latest marine electronics, including a Furuno omni, three Garmin 24-inch displays, and three Release Marine helm chairs. One noticeable, yet intentional omission from the vessel is a gyro stabilizer, which the owner opted against to optimize speed and performance, especially in reverse.
Interior, Engine Room & Performance
Her interior is handcrafted from the finest teak, with a four-cabin, three-head layout that accommodates up to seven guests and crew. The owner’s and VIP cabins feature en-suite heads, while the third head is shared between the two crew cabins. Custom tackle and rod storage are integrated throughout for a clean, uncluttered finish.
The sparkling engine room houses powerful twin MTU 16V2000 power plants, providing 5,200 total horsepower for nearly unmatched performance. The custom-designed, remote gearboxes sit in front of the engines, utilizing a V-drive setup and a 7-degree shaft angle, ensuring smooth operation and efficiency. On performance trials, she reached an incredible top speed of 50 knots, with excellent handling and acceleration. Of note is the advanced technology integrated into Uno Mas. The vessel has a custom fuel transfer system, and is equipped with Octoplex and an additional Maretron monitoring system for easy, remote systems management.
Recently splashed in November 2024, look for the new Uno Mas on the tournament trail in Costa Rica and Central America.
