The fishing was on fire at the 12th Annual Carolina Boat Builders Tournament that took place July 23-26 at Pirate’s Cove Marina in Manteo, NC.

A total of 19 boats released 105 billfish during two days of fishing. Everyone has a lay day over the three day tournament, and all 19 boats chose Friday, July 24 as their lay day due to weather. However, on Saturday, July 25 there were calm seas and that led to an excellent day of fishing, with 45 billfish released: 39 white marlin, two blue marlin, three sailfish and one spearfish. The leaderboard on Saturday had Sea Hag (61′ Blackwell) in first place with five white marlin and 500 points, followed closely by A-Salt Weapon also with 500 points. Double B (62′ Winter) and Sandra D (58′ Hudson) with 400 points each.

The fishing on Sunday had 60 billfish released: 46 white marlin, eight sailfish, five blue marlin and one spearfish. Stream Weaver (60′ Spencer) came from behind and pulled a Double Grand Slam, releasing three blue marlin, two white marlin and three sailfish, positioning themselves as the lead boat with 1000 points on time.

Stream Weaver‘s crew decided to take an extra hour in quest of a very rare Triple Slam, and they pulled it off. Just as they were about to pull in the lines, they pulled in a white marlin. It didn’t count in the tournament, but it is a still an amazing accomplishment for the day.

Sandra D released six white marlin, moving them to 2nd Place with a total of 1000 points. Sandra Inchaustegui on Sandra D was awarded both Top Angler and Top Lady Angler with 800 points. Sea Hag came in 3rd Place, releasing three white marlin on Sunday and totaling 800 points on time. Double B came in 4th Place, also with 800 points in the final. The Junior Angler Award went to Gavin Clark aboard Double B with 500 points ($1,000).

The success of this tournament would not be possible without the generosity of our many sponsors, anglers, donors, restaurant sponsors, silent auction donors and purchasers, and volunteers.
