Shimano Tyrnos line
The Tyrnos and Tyrnos 2-speeds are light-tackle reels built tough but without a lot of weight.
Jun 25, 2008

For many years the light-tackle reel of choice for a lot of big-game fishermen, the Shimano TLD series, has blended tough performance with an ultralight graphite frame. And while these great little reels made short work out of thousands of sails, whites and small blues, they were frequently asked to endure more heat than they were designed to handle. Shimano answered by developing the Tyrnos and Tyrnos 2-speeds — light-tackle reels built tough but without a lot of weight.

The Tyrnos line comes with all the features you need for heavy-duty saltwater fishing, whether you're targeting kingfish or blue marlin. The solid one-piece construction and the racheting lever-drag system were designed to perform under extreme pressure. Oversized gears and handle shanks, die-cast aluminum frames and four advanced ball-bearings make these reels incredibly strong. The topless design — there's no crossbar — on the 12- and 16-pound models lighten the reels and allow you to work the spool with your thumb.
