SFE Ultimate Fishing Kites
If you’d like to try your hand at this unique way of fishing live baits, pick up one of SFE’s Ultimate Fishing Kites.
Mar 31, 2008
You can't argue with the effectiveness of using live baits. No billfish can resist a squirming livey tossed into the spread. That fact isn't lost on all of the boys who choose to kite-fish live bait for sails and other species off south Florida. Dangling a feisty goggle-eye more than 100 feet away from the boat with no leader in the water triggers strike after strike. If you'd like to try your hand at this unique way of fishing live baits, pick up one of SFE's Ultimate Fishing Kites.

Developed by Miami captain Phil Slaga, the SFE fishing kite is a perfect one to start out with since it flies just fine after it gets wet. (Anyone familiar with launching kites at sea will greatly appreciate this feature.) This kite flies in any wind ranging from 5 to 25 mph, letting you use just one kite no matter how hard the wind blows. A simple adjustment to the kite's bridle lets it handle just about any conditions. The kites come in both red and green, and the company also makes a version that flies steadily in winds topping the 25 mph mark.
